Haytime is finally underway here at Thornthwaite Farm in the Lake District.  We don’t cut our fields until after the 15th July  as part of our higher tier environmental scheme.  This ensures that any flowers and grasses have seeded, thus continuing the improvement of our traditional hay meadows.  The forecast looks good for the rest of the week, so we should make some nice dry hay, ready to feed to the sheep this winter.  We still have more grass to cut, so lets hope we have another heatwave soon!
